After a two-year sleep, Prince Laharl awakens to find his father, King Krichevskoy, dead and the Netherworld in the middle of a civil war over who takes the throne. Not willing to give up his rightful place as the next king, Laharl joins with his subordinate Etna and her underlings to fight back. In a similar style to Final Fantasy Tactics and Ogre Battle, Disgaea is a combination of RPG myth and magic with a turn-based strategy overview. Various menu systems open you up to strategies, weapons and technology, as well as a magic spell or two, to get the job done.

Disgaea is a tactical role playing game. Battle gameplay takes place on a map divided into a square grid. The player controls a squad of humanoid units and monsters, which each occupy a single square of the grid and do combat with a group of enemies. Depending on the character and attack selected, the player will be able to deal damage to a specific enemy unit or a designated region of the map. Combat ends when all enemy units or all of the player's units are destroyed. Humanoid characters may lift and throw other units across the map in order to allow allies to move further or force enemies to keep their distance. This even allows the player to capture enemies by throwing them into the base panel; these enemies then become allies, and can be used on subsequent maps. The chance of capturing an enemy in this manner depends on several factors. Failure to capture the enemy will result in the death of all characters inside the base panel, and the enemy will survive.

Disgaea Infinite takes the lovable characters and game world of the legendary Disgaea series and throws them into a fresh new "visual novel" game style, offering a thrilling mystery to solve, clues to hunt, and a suspect to track down. You are given full control over the story, including the ability to travel back and forth in time and choosing how characters will act, making for an exciting new experience in the Disgaea universe!

Players will initially take on the role of Overlord Laharl, a young demon prince who has just woken from a two-year long nap and finds out that his father, who was the king, has passed away. In order to regain his rightful title as King of the Netherworld, Laharl sets off on a demonic adventure, but must do so with a back stabbing servant, love stupid angel, and a few disgruntled penguins who are looking for trouble.

Disgaea D2: A Brighter Darkness, known in Japan as Disgaea Dimension 2 (ディスガイア D2?), is a 2013 video game in the Disgaea series developed by Nippon Ichi Software. The game is a sequel to 2003's Disgaea: Hour of Darkness for the PlayStation 2, where the respective main characters of that game will again be the focus. It was released on March 20, 2013, for the PlayStation 3 in Japan.

The game takes place in a Netherworld, common in Disgaea titles, and similar to Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice, focuses itself on a specific theme. Nippon Ichi, apparently feeling that it had exhausted all the game systems a school setting can provide, made the story one of a more political nature. While aspects of Netherworld politics existed in previous games, it is the central focus of the story and the gameplay in Disgaea 4.
