Tales of Destiny is a follow-up to Tales of Phantasia. Like its predecessor, it has the structure of traditional Japanese role-playing games, but substitutes turn-based combat for action-oriented one. Battles take place on separate side-scrolling screens and resemble those of a fighting game. The player controls the main hero, navigating him on the battle screen and performing various attacks and combos. Other party members are controlled by the game's AI, but it is possible to pause the battle at any time and assign new combat style to any one of them.

Tales of Destiny II follows Reid Hershel as he tries to prevent the Grand Fall, a cataclysmic event that would destroy his planet along with that of newly-found traveling companion Meredy. Specifically, the Grand Fall entails the violent collision of twin planets Inferia and Celestia. The journey takes Reid across both planets, as he seeks out those responsible for this movement towards the brink of annihilation.

Reid Hershel, Farrah Oersted, and a mysterious girl named Meredy must embark on a journey to learn the truth on the fate of their world. The story begins when Reid and Farrah attend to the crash of a spaceship near their hometown, Rashea. As they investigate the place of the incident, a weird blue animal leads them to a young girl injured by the crash who speaks an unknown language. Further on, Reid and Farrah learn that the mysterious girl, named Meredy, came here to prevent a deadly collision between her planet, Celestia, and Reid and Farrah's world, Inferia. With the help of some friends picked up along the way, Reid, Farrah, and Meredy set out on a quest to collect a set of spiritual beings, their only hope to save both of their planets from a terrible disaster. Control 1 character out of a party of 4 through magnificent 2D environments and 3D world maps. Discover a bunch of challenging mini games perfectly implemented to the story that will make the characters earn unique features.

Asbel and Hubert Lhant find an amnesiac girl in the fields and take her back to their village, Lhant, to find her family. When the townspeople are unable to identify her, Asbel, Hubert, and their friend, Cheria Barnes, decide to take care of her and name her Sophie. When Richard, the prince of their country, Windor, visits, they befriend him and carve a friendship pact into a tree. When Richard returns to the capital city, Barona, Asbel and his friends follow. Richard proposes for them to sneak into the castle via a secret underground entrance at night.There, the four find Richard unconscious and are fatally wounded by an unknown monster. Sophie manages to defeat the monster by self destructing and Asbel is returned to Lhant. After he regains consciousness, Asbel learns about Sophie's death and Hubert's adoption into the Oswell family. Daunted by the outcome, Asbel leaves for Barona and enrolls in the Knight Academy.

Tales of Legendia is a fantasy role-playing game that continues the Tales series of games. You can play as Senel Coolidge, who encounters a giant, mysterious ship while adrift in a small boat with his sister. As you explore the history of the ship, you will encounter epic enemies and engage them using the "X-LiMBS" battle system, which lets you fight in real time like in a fighting game. The story is beset with unique characters designed by the animator featured in Kill Bill Vol. One.
