At the beginning of the game, players can select either "Exhibition" or "Tournament" matches. An exhibition match is just one game played against either the computer or another player. Tournament matches are similar to the NHL playoffs. It starts out as one team of the player's choice going against other teams in a playoff style tournament. The team that is successful in beating all of the opposing teams is awarded the Konami Cup.

The evil Dark Lady has unleashed an onslaught of barbarians and beasts upon the land, and it's your duty to come face-to-face with all that she can throw at you in an attempt to protect your homeland. In BLADES OF VENGEANCE, you can choose your gladiator from three different classes: Huntress, Warrior, or Sorcerer. Each character has its own special powers and abilities, so you'll have to decide which one best fits your fighting style and then get ready for the fight of your life! Along with your standard weapons battle-axe, rapier, mace, crossbow, and fireball you can also make yourself invincible with special armor and weapons that are strewn about each of the eight levels. If you've got the strength and courage to defeat all eight of the bosses, then you'll have a shot at the Dark Lady are you ready?

The story is set in the year 2140. Robert Wills Stone II - a.k.a. Blake Stone - is an agent of the British Intelligence, recruited after a highly successful career in the British Royal Navy. His first major case is to investigate and eliminate the threat of Dr. Pyrus Goldfire, a brilliant scientist in the field of genetics and biology, known for his outright disrespect of professional ethics. Backed by his own organization, STAR, Dr. Goldfire plans to conquer Earth and enslave humanity using an army of specially trained human conscripts, modified alien species, and a host of genetically-engineered mutants. Agent Stone is sent on a mission to knock out six crucial STAR installations and destroy Goldfire's army before it can assault the Earth.

Following Pyrus Goldfire's escape at the end of Aliens of Gold, British Intelligence initiated a large-scale search to capture him. For many years, no trace of the arch-villain could be found. In 2149, Dr. Goldfire is spotted in an abandoned training facility near the former STAR Institute. He is building an army stronger than anything witnessed before, in a second attempt to enslave humanity. Blake Stone is once again sent to stop the villain, with a direct order to find and terminate Dr. Goldfire, so that he would never threaten civilization again.

In the deathmatch of the future, your uniform is a time bomb. Sealed in the 3D rotating Blast Chamber, you strive to cheat death as walls become floors and floors become ceilings. Time counts down while you and up to three opponents scramble madly to control the one thing that can save you - the crystal. Extend your life or shorten your opponents' to avoid a fiery death.
