Bug Island is a island full of bugs and the perfect place for Michelle, who is majoring in insect physiology, to work on a report for school. Along come Mike, the typical confident college playboy and Ray, a freshman in college. Arriving on the island, Mike and Ray fight over Michelle who then runs off into the foggy distance and is nowhere to be found. Now Ray needs to find Michelle and get off the island in one piece.

You play as Taz, the famous cartoon-character. Taz is captured by Marvin the Martian and transfered to his intergalactic Zoo! Now it is your job to aid Taz in his great escape from the Zoo-prison and also find a way back home to Earth. To make the escape a little easier, there are items placed here and there, such as cakes which make regain your health. You also find gas tanks, which you can eat and then breath fire.

The game begins with Guybrush Threepwood and Elaine Marley returning to Mêlée Island from their honeymoon, which they embarked on in the epilogue of The Curse of Monkey Island. Here they find that Elaine has been declared officially dead, her position as governor has been revoked and her mansion is scheduled to be demolished. The governorship is up for election, and suddenly a person known as Charles L. Charles presents himself as the lead candidate. As Elaine begins her campaign to recover her position, Guybrush meets again with three of his old "friends", Meathook, Otis and Carla and heads out to recover the Marley family heirlooms and obtain the legal documents to save her mansion. During his trip, Guybrush learns of the Marley family guarding a secret known as the Ultimate Insult, an insult so insidious, it destroys the spirit of those who hear it. He also winds up being framed for bank robbery by crook Peg-Nosed Pete at the hiring of the Australian Ozzie Mandrill, but manages to prove his innocence.

The undead have been unleashed upon the world. Only a holy talisman can destroy them, but it has been broken into pieces and hidden in Monster Manor. Now you must venture into the cursed mansion and find the pieces so that humanity may be saved.
