The game offers exhibition race, freestyle and career modes. There are a number of unlockable items including new riders, bikes, tracks and mini-games. New in this edition is the track editor which allows you to create your own stunt tracks. The graphics are well done and the soundtrack is above par for this genre of game.

MX vs. ATV Unleashed é um simulador de corridas com quadriciclos e motocicletas do tipo off-road (utilizadas na modalidade Motocross de motovelocidade). Isso quer dizer pistas muito irregulares, manobras radicais e pegas de tirar o fôlego. Como é característico da modalidade, as pistas são cheias de obstáculos, como íngremes subidas. E além de explorar pistas de terra, em MX vs. ATV Unleashed também é possível percorrer montanhas de gelo com um “Monster Truck” especial e até mesmo se divertir com carrinhos de Golf 4 x 4 em meio a um clube de campo. Este foi o primeiro título da série a contar com um editor para que os jogadores criem as mais insanas pistas off-road. Além da possibilidade da criação dos próprios circuitos, é possível usá-los em corridas com outros jogadores graças ao modo online que o game oferece.
