An interesting idea; the Nintendo 2DS seems to target those wanting the games and features of the 3DS, but not the 3D effect. Its being referred to as more of an entry level handheld, though the only actual difference is the lack of 3D support and the look of the device (as you can see in the image below).
If you are interested in picking up this new Nintendo handheld, it is set to launch on October 12, 2013 and should be $129.99 (nice when compared to the $170 3DS and the $200 3DS XL). Upon launch, it is to be available in blue and red colors.
Some noteworthy things about the design of this. As mentioned before, it is the same as the 3DS, just without 3D support - 3D RENDERING that is. It is still sporting the dual cameras on the back meaning 3D photos can still be taken and the AR Cards will still work... however, the photos and the AR card effects will not appear in 3D. The 3D photos could be transfered to a 3DS and appear in full 3D there.
There are a lot of other points we could cover, but we are focusing on the preliminary stuff right now. So as not to drone on and on, let's wrap this puppy up. To end, a bit of an opinion on the device. Personally, I like it. It is targeting a younger audience, but more importantly to me, possibly an older audience as well. A lot of gamers that loved the Atari and Intellivision feel out of the picture with some of this newer technology and something like this could be help bring them back into the industry on a modern platform - easy controls, no 3D effects, and even more affordable. I doubt I will be buying this to replace my 3DS, but I do hope people see the full potential in the device. Time will tell.
